Reet London

Energy runs through the works of Reet (pronounced Rhett) London, be it graceful flowing lines undulating over swriling fields of color creating an image out of the abstract field, or the brush strokes and color choices that make up a simple palm tree. The mundane becomes charged with a sense of the unique and the personal becomes spiritual. Working with a color palette of full rich hues Reet's paintings recalls the works of past masters from the beginning of the last century, brimming with passion and sense of the divine within each object. With a strong background in art and its techniques Reet is able to blend seamlessly many different styles, and disciplines. This ability mingled with her unique European sensibilities and vision combine within her work, forming a new language composed of texture color and line.

A native of Estonia, Reet has been creating masterful works of art from a very early age, be it murals on her bedroom door in her early preteens or other paintings for herself and her family. Knowing that she wanted a life creating art and that even though she was proud of her heritage, it was much too cold in her hometown of Tallinn. Setting out for warmer climes Reet arrived in Jacksonville, Florida where she enrolled at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and in her first year won an art grant that took care of her time at FCCJ. After attaining her Associates Degree she enrolled at the University of North Florida where, majoring in graphic design, she completed her degree and graduated on the Dean's List. After graduation Reet did some work in her major, designing letterhead and logos, but found the work left her unfulfilled."... sometimes you have to make the canvas messy to see what happens..." Remembering the excitement and joy of the painting classes she had taken while getting her degree, Reet decided painting was what she wanted to do.

In 2002, Reet opened European Art Garage as a working artist gallery as a way to not only showcase her work but also to invite people to experience art in progress. When not at the gallery working on a commission or teaching classes Reet can be found wandering the aisles of the major do it yourself stores looking for new materials and mediums to make into her next work of art. So stop by to see true artistry at work or to commission a unique piece of art for yourself.
